Performing in the Metropolitan Opera House, the opera was started in 1880 by Peter Gelb as a non-profit organization. This opera season is packed full of exciting shows, both old and new. The 2012/2013 season will consist of 209 performances of 28 operas, opening with the comedy L'Elisir d'Amore and going on to show seven new shows, sixteen revivals, three complete Ring cycles, and a holiday production of The Barber of Seville.
