    For the 4th year , AKA was a proud sponsor of the Tribeca Film Festival which encompasses 12 days of independent movie screenings, panels, talks and free community events. As a sponsor of the Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature, AKA’s Larry Korman had the honor of saying a few words about AKA’s involvement and support of the festival at the award ceremony in New York City on April 26th. This year, the Best Narrative Feature award went to Kim Nguyen for his movie War Witch. Congratulations to all  filmmakers who participated in the 11th Annual Tribeca Film Festival.

    AKA's Larry Korman with Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal presented the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature to Lisa Aschan, the director, and co-writer of She Monkeys.  The final award of the evening highlighted the weeklong celebration of independent films.  This year marked the 10th annual Festival.  Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2001 following the attacks on the World Trade Center to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of the lower Manhattan district through an annual celebration of film, music and culture. The Tribeca Film Festival celebrates New York City as an international filmmaking center. This year's program line-up continued to honor the very best in independent filmmaking featuring documentaries, shorts, and feature films from around the world.

  •  AKA Sutton Place Hosts Third Annual Holiday Show with Burberry 

    AKA Sutton Place hosted the Third Annual Burberry Holiday Trunk Show on Thursday, December 10, 2009.  The Definitely Dickens Holiday Carolers entertained the more than 100 holiday shoppers and revelers who attended the AKA/Burberry event, which displayed classic Burberry outerwear, sportswear, and accessories in the elegant AKA Sutton Place lobby.  AKA, part of the 100-year Korman Communities tradition, and Burberry, founded in 1856 and inventor of the trench coat, both share a commitment to quality and innovation. 

  •  AKA Sponsors a Fund Raising Event for the film Digital Dharma

    AKA sponsored a special preview event for the documentary film Digital Dharma: One Man's Mission to Save a Culture.

     

    The event, which took place at the new private gallery of Shelley and Donald Rubin, in New York City, included a Silent Auction of contemporary art to raise completion funds for the film project Digital Dharma about the life of E. Gene Smith and the mission of the Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center.

    Five-time Grammy nominee and classical guitar virtuoso, Ottmar Liebert, performed.

  •  Volunteer Spotlight: AKA Rittenhouse Square! 

     


    For the third consecutive year, MANNA welcomed the team from AKA Rittenhouse Square for the afternoon volunteer shift. Evan O'Donnell, General Manager of AKA along with five team members came to MANNA to scoop soup, bake cookies and package meals. AKA, the innovative and growing collection of luxury extended-stay properties, is offering guests, and internal team members, the opportunity to give back to those in need with the launch of AKA Give It!

     

    Initiated at AKA Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, the volun-tourism program partners with local non-profit organizations like MANNA. AKA Give It! was created in response to the magnanimous, volunteering spirit of Steven Korman, CEO of Korman Communities. A long time MANNA supporter, Korman joined efforts with MANNA and through his subsequent generosity the organization unveiled The Steven Korman Nutrition Center in 2008; this center allows MANNA to expand its reach and care to more than 800 people with three meals per day, serving the local community almost one million meals each year. Thank you, Steven Korman and the staff and guests of AKA Rittenhouse, for your help and generous donation of time.

  •  AKA Attends Private Carly Simon Performance

    The AKA Team attended an intimate performance by Carly Simon at 1 OAK in Chelsea on April 29, 2010. The event, took place after the Tribeca Film Festival Awards and was hosted by TFF and Iris Records to celebrate the first ever "You're So Vain" music video contest, a collaboration between TFF and AOL "Spinner".

    With poise and grace Carly took to the stage with her son Ben Taylor, and performed songs from her new CD Never Been Gone. Carly was joined on stage with her older sister Lucy to reminisce their early career as folk singers. The highlight of the evening came when Carly invited guests to join her on stage to sing You’re So Vain, and the small crowd of family, friends, and fans became electric.
