Thursday, April 28, 2011
New York City
AKA's Larry Korman with Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal presented the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature to Lisa Aschan, the director, and co-writer of She Monkeys. The final award of the evening highlighted the weeklong celebration of independent films. This year marked the 10th annual Festival. Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff founded the Tribeca Film Festival in 2001 following the attacks on the World Trade Center to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of the lower Manhattan district through an annual celebration of film, music and culture. The Tribeca Film Festival celebrates New York City as an international filmmaking center. This year's program line-up continued to honor the very best in independent filmmaking featuring documentaries, shorts, and feature films from around the world.
