Design Vision

Interior Design Best Of Year 2023 Finalist

“In partnership with Piero Lissoni, we will transform the hotel’s design to debut as an ultra-luxury hotel offering in a very special New York City neighborhood,” says Larry Korman, President of AKA. “As leaders in the long stay sector, we are able to introduce our core residential philosophies to better evolve the traditional hotel category to a high-quality experience that is more livable. At our NoMad location, we are working closely with Piero and his team to infuse a tranquil and sophisticated design that strikes the perfect balance between the privacy and contentment of a residence and the hospitality, service and style of an intimate hotel so it has touches of residential living.”

Hotel AKA Nomad's spaces are the work of globally renowned architect and designer Piero Lissoni, who has created an atmosphere of harmony and peace in his first U.S. hotel project that draws on a range of influences, from Japan to Scandinavia. Furnishings and fixtures are sourced from the world’s premier artisans, including LEMA, Living Divani, Porro, Lualdi and Salvatori. Hotel AKA NoMad's spectacular transformation was a finalist for “Best Chain Hotel 2023” by Interior Design Magazine.

The lobby features art pieces by Duth duo X and L from Amsterdam, with simple abstract compositions made with hand dyed pieces of handwoven silk that are stitched together. Art featured in the guestrooms and suites feature soft, organic graphics with simple shapes from Scandinavian artists, including Atelier Cph, Estelle Graf, Moe made it and Nord Projects.

“You know the film ‘New York, New York’ with Liza Minnelli and Roberto De Niro? Well, for me this will be AKA Nomad. It will be my idea of a New York that encompasses music, life, silence, snow, traffic and energy, but always accompanied by elegance and diversity,” said Mr. Lissoni. “It will not be conformist, but will be a hotel that will narrate and speak with a certain style, embracing interior design influences from Japan and modernist geometries.”
